Every year, Pro-Claim Ministries, a prison ministry from Texas, comes to the Woodsman Unit to share Christ’s love to hundreds of women. A couple of weeks ago, we had the opportunity to take a team to this women’s prison outside of Waco, TX with Pro-Claim. As we started the first service, I immediately realized what a blessing it would be to worship with these inmates.
Even though their situations may have led them to feel otherwise, their JOY was above anything I had ever seen. After the services, we had the opportunity to meet with some of the women, as they filed out of the tent where we held worship. In conversation with one of the girls, Rebecca shared how much of a blessing it was that they were so responsive and engaging in worship. The girl then responded by saying that they look forward to this week all year, because it is their only chance to be in a worship service with music.
What a tremendous challenge to me… To always look forward to worshipping with the church, whenever I’m doing other things throughout the week. It seems that in our comfortable, compartmentalized lives, we often take advantage of how many opportunities we have to “worship with music”. We don’t even think about worship until the cool lights turn on, and 15 guys with guitars have to tell us to worship. God really placed this on my heart, and challenged me to worship Him even when it’s not in the most convenient time, and to always look forward to the chances I have to worship with my church.
